about

“Your life is not what you think it is. You are not the master of your own destiny as you once thought.”

'Sol', the debut release from Nightmares of The Sun, is a progressive metal concept album, and serves as the soundtrack to a story of the bizarre, the cosmic and the terrifying! Come on a journey that takes you on an extraordinary adventure to the far reaches of the galaxy as you try to understand why your days are barely remembered, and your nights are full of terror. As you come to discover the terrible truth you will confront not only the source of, but the horror behind your Nightmares of The Sun!

From the creative mind of musician Luke Maxwell Johnson, 'Sol' applies the heaviest and most melodic elements of progressive metal inspired by his love of bands like Opeth, Ihsahn and Porcupine Tree to create an instrumental journey for this retro sci-fi inspired concept album. Pushing himself to explore soundscapes outside of the more traditional and melodic death metal that he is known for, Luke has embraced the more electronic elements, incorporating not only retro keys and mellotrons but an array of synths, drum machines, sound fx and strings to create a detailed sonic landscape in which these songs can live.
